Probiotics may provide relief of constipation

Probiotics may help treat constipation in infants, a new study shows. A class of "friendly bacteria" naturally present in the digestive tract, probiotics are available in the form of additional and often used to improve the health of the intestine.

The study consisted of 44 infants, who was diagnosed with chronic constipation. Eight weeks infants received either a dietary supplement containing probiotic Lactobacillus reuteri or a placebo.Results of the study show that infants given probiotic treatment frequency significantly more high stool in the study (compared to those assigned to the placebo group) .Quoi, no side effects have been associated the use of probiotics supplement.

Previous research suggest that probiotics can also relieve constipation in adults, but also help treat other common digestive ailments (such as diarrhea and gastrointestinal disorders, resulting from the use of antibiotics).
